Mental Health Therapies

In the past and present, there is much confusion as to the causes of mental conditions such as depression, bi-polar states, manic psychosis, A.D.D., and post traumatic stress conditions.

Present day treatments seem to localize a diagnosis of malfuction of the brain and nerve tissues. To a degree, a diagnosis may address only the symptoms. To get at the underlying conditions causing the problem, it is necessary to take a first step in order to determine if other glandular and organic states are unbalanced.

For example, a regular flashlight usually has two 1.5 volt batteries together to power a light bulb rated at 3.0 volts. When the batteries lose their charge and the light bulb goes dim, the total voltage from the two batteries may only have about 2.0 volts.

The symptom here is a dim flashlight.

How would you solve this problem?

1. Would you replace the light bulb with a 2.0 volt light bulb and force the batteries to get weaker yet?
2. Would you replace the batteries with new ones so you can keep the original 3.0 volt light bulb.

Of course, the cause here is a lowered voltage from the batteries, so you would replace the batteries.

The analogy being drawn here is:
1. The light bulb represents the brain and nerve tissue.
2. The batteries represent the body's glands and organs that supply the brain.

When anti-depressants or psychotic stabilizers are taken, the brain and nerve tissues are forced to over-extend their capabilities.  The cause may be glandular and/or other organic deficiencies. When these deficiencies are present, the supply to the head and brain areas suffer and produce syptoms of mental illness. In this case, when anti-depressants and psychotic stabilizers are used, further neuron exhaustion  and other complication in the nerve tissue may arise.

The glandular system is composed of the pituitary gland (the master gland for the Immune System), the thyroid gland, the adrenal glands, the gonadal glands, the pancreas, and others.

The main organs of the body are the stomach, liver, gall bladder, small and large intestines, kidneys, lungs, heart, veins, arteries, and the prostate.

If any mental health condition is caused by the glandular system and/or the organs of the body, it is foolhardy to try to address the brain and nervous system first until all the necessary corrections are made to the glands and organs of the body.

             1. We are physically what we eat.
             2. We are mentally what we think.
             3. We are spiritually what we believe.

If we supply the body with proper nutrition, our "battery" reserves going to the head and brain areas will be in balance.

We can think properly when our glands and organs of the body are in balance with with the use of proper nutrition.

When the above two (what we eat and what we think) are in balance we can take our spiritual potentials much higher. Prayer, meditation, and visualization become much easier. Fears become much less. After all, we only need to fear immediate and impending danger, and not "what could happen" or "what might happen" in the distant future.

The First Step - Eat Real Food

Yes, eat what you can actually call food. When we eat food high in biological value, we are automatically eating food that is closest to its natural and original state.

Observe other people that have mental health conditions. See if they eat or partake of processed foods (or non-foods) such as cakes, pies, pastries, sodas, alcohol, tobacco, or other junk foods. I would even include the pastas, salsas, kethup, sugars, tomato pastes, and salt. All of these are not only a burden on the digestive processes, but will cause a vitamin and mineral imbalance in the body.

Read the labels in the food stores where you shop. You will be surprised how many denaturing additives and preservatives are present.

THREE SIMPLE RULES TO FOLLOW

             1. Eat only fruit in the morning.
             2. Eat foods having protein at lunch with some vegetables.
Proteins digest much better during the high temperature part of the day (not in the morning and not in the evening when your body temperature is lower).
             3. At supper time, have less proteins and include more vegetables.

OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO

The folowing nutritional supplements help with MH conditions:

Niacin (Vitamin B3) increases the blood flow to the head areas, especially when taken upon arising in the morning.

Iodine is one of the main ingredient of brain cell function. Kelp tablets with your meals supplement the iodine. Kelp also contains the total mineral needs in the correct proportions needed by the body tissues. Kelp has it's minerals in a natural chelated form, i.e., minerals are ready to be absorbed by the body cells.

Calcium/Magnesium supplements taken at before retiring at night encourages a restful sleep. Excess acid buildup is reduced. When acids are in excess, the body cannot get a restful sleep.

Monitor your body vital signs to determine which organs or glands need more help. A low body temperature usually accompanies many mental health symptoms, and the brain and nerves aren't the cause.

This is achieved by taking certain readings anyone can do. The readings taken are the Temperature, the Pulse, the Saliva pH, the Urine pH, and the Blood Pressure. These readings are the indicators which show the way to modify your nutritional requirements.

I have written a book called "Starting and Testing the Healing Process" so anyone can make intelligent decisions in order to balance the body chemistry. Armed with this knowledge, you can not only learn things about your nutritional needs, but you can eliminate plenty of guesswork that was in question before.

Note: If you are on any mental health drugs now, it is not recommended to stop all of them now at one time or go against a health practitioner's recommendations. Gradual reduction of any drug is recommended while glandular and organic problems are corrected.

If there is permanent brain damage due to drugs or a head injury, (it may be very difficult to heal), no reduction is recommended. In this case any reduction should be done with close supervision using a skilled health practitioner monitoring your health status frequently.
